Rigor Product Suggestions

  1. RBC: Record video of rendering

Right now Rigor captures screenshots of page failures and they're great for troubleshooting. It would be an added bonus if we also captured video of successful tests and failed tests so that users can compare visual render time of specific elements.

100% agree. If WebPageTest can do it, which should be capable of doing it as well!

To calculate SpeedIndex (another thing we are doing), we need to take lots of screenshots anyway. So stitching them together into a video makes total sense and would be a great eye candy feature

    Moving to Planned

  2. Email Reports: Include percentage change

It's great that we include green arrows or red arrows in email reports to indicate change in performance. It would be even better if we also included the percentage change, so it would be easier to see if there was a big difference from previous days.

  3. Incorporate Speed Index metrics in the data point detail page

Incorporate Speed Index into the times reported for each data point...

    https://sites.google.com/a/webpagetest.org/docs/using-webpagetest/metrics/speed-index

Google and webpagetest.ord have started to use a measurement called Speed Index in their reporting.

Long story short, this is a method of measuring render time to the user based on what shows on their screen (video capture) as opposed to a particular element loading or the onload event. Speed Index, as I understand it, gives a much better idea of how the page performs from the user's perspective.

If this metric could be displayed between Render Time and Load Time, (here https://my.rigor.com/checks/10488/runs/862529159 )that would be awesome. In…

  4. Add monitoring for touch events on mobile devices

It's great that we can monitor clicks; we should also be able to set success criteria for Real Browser checks based on touch events firing and working.

  5. Add monitoring for ssl cert expiration

It would be helpful to have a monitor for ssl cert expiration. For some shops that manage multiple applications with both third party and self signed certs it's a huge ordeal to manage them with a spreadsheet and sheer will.

The ability to enforce SSL certification verification (aka fail the run if the SSL certificate isn’t valid) is currently in private beta, and will be coming out to the general public by the end of this month (Dec 2016)

  6. have the ability to upload a new Selenium script to an existing Real Browser Check

Add the ability to re-upload a Selenium script for an existing Real Browser Check. In some instances, this would be faster than editing existing steps.

  7. Add option to only log a failure if uptime check fails from more than one location

It's great that we can customize notifications based on location-specific errors; let's add the same functionality for alerts and make sure that users have the option to keep location-specific problems from affecting uptime stats.

We do have a way in the app to compute what we call SLA uptime, which specifically only flags downtime if 2 or more failures occur in a row, helping reduce the impact of a bad location.

Reaching out to Melanie with some clarifying questions

  8. API: Add API method to pause or mute individual checks by ID

Right now we have the ability to bulk pause or mute checks in control groups, but sometimes you might want to pause or mute just one individual check.

We should allow a method for a command that can pause or mute a specific check via the API without creating a new control group.

100% agree. Control groups should be a short cut way to mute multiple checks, not the only option for muting checks. Thanks for the suggestion Melanie. Moving to “under review”

  9. UI: Sortable column on HAR viewer waterfall charts

It would be neat if we could sort waterfall charts by the largest file size, content types, etc.

Thanks for the suggestion Melanie, I think it could help yes! Chrome Dev tools allows you to do this in their waterfall, and I personal use it fairly regularly. The entire HAR viewer could probably use a visual/usability upgrade. Moving to “under review”

  10. Export Rigor checks as Selenium scripts

Right now it's super easy to import a script from Selenium to Rigor, but it's not easy to export a check built or edited in Rigor in a format compatible with Selenium IDE.

It would be neat if we could translate Rigor checks into scripts that our users can test outside of the Rigor app.

  11. Add User Agent string option to Benchmark checks

We should include a User Agent string configuration option for Benchmark checks so that users can easily run Benchmark checks on mobile sites.

100% agree. We have big plans for the Benchmark checks, and the first step is to allow both User-Agent and ViewPort settings when configuring

  12. UI: Update Bulk Change so users can add tags in bulk

Right now tags can only be applied / removed on a check-by-check basis. We should make it easy to add / remove tags in bulk by adding it as an option to our existing Bulk Change feature.

100% agree. This is the kind of thing needed when support large organizations with a large amount of checks.

We should add the ability to bulk add/remove tags via our bulk update functionality. Moving to “under review”

  13. Provide more specific information for 'Could not connect' type erorrs

Sometimes when a check is unable to connect we capture and show the traceroute, but we don't which server we were trying to connect to or other details that might help users debug.

We should improve the in-app messaging for these types of failures.

  14. Add templates to customize SMS alerts

Right now we have the ability to customize the content of Rigor alert emails with email templates, but we don't have a way to customize SMS alert content.

It would be nice to have SMS templates, similar to email templates.

  15. Reports: Add option to see tag reports over time frames < or = 24 hours

Current tag reports are based on daily rollups. It would be nice if users could easily see individual runs within smaller time frames on the tag report or have the option to create on the fly performance history reports based on tags.

I know inside the app, we should run-level metrics for a tag set under the “Dashboards”. Makes sense to apply this out to reports as well. Reaching out to Melanie to get some clarifying details.

  16. Users should be able to save and apply excluded files to multiple checks in bulk

Either with a configuration template or a bulk change, users should be able to save a set of excluded files and re-use that set on multiple Real Browser checks.

Bonus points if users can import a set of domains or file names to exclude instead of using the + Add Excluded File builder.

  17. Show page size trends over time

It would be great if we could see the trend of page size over time. Example: something updates on a site that greatly increases page size, users should be able to filter a trend report on page size for individual runs and spot that spike.

Roberta is reworking all the data collection systems and aggregation systems, so all the metrics from the Page Performance report (including Total Page Size) will be graphable at the run and aggregate level

  18. Email alternate address when a check is back online

When a check comes back online, I'd like it to email a different address than the address that gets emailed when a check fails. Our checks email our 3rd party alerting tool, so when something fails and comes back online, the "all clear" email pages my team

Thanks for the idea! This is actually similar to the “Notify on Check Status Change” idea. Basically, send different people different things under different conditions.

We are currently collecting use cases for a reworked notification system. This is a good idea to consider.

  19. Make monthly performance reports available for .csv export.

Make monthly performance reports available for .csv export, with full data (not just daily rollups).

Thanks for the suggestion Duncan. This makes total sense. To be clear, with the Rigor API you can pull this data out now, but making it easier to fetch as a CSV would be very valuable. Reviewing options for this.

  20. Allow users to set custom times for frequency intervals

Right now Rigor has a set of intervals to choose from to run checks, e.g. 10 minutes, 20 minutes, 30 minutes, and hour, but it would be nice if users could add their own custom time intervals, e.g. 35 minutes or 40 minutes.
