Rigor Product Suggestions

  1. Users should be able to save and apply excluded files to multiple checks in bulk

Either with a configuration template or a bulk change, users should be able to save a set of excluded files and re-use that set on multiple Real Browser checks.

Bonus points if users can import a set of domains or file names to exclude instead of using the + Add Excluded File builder.

  2. Configurable query links for quick access to logs

Our company uses splunk to log the inner workings of our services. I would love to be able to formulate a splunk query by crafting the url from output coming from a failed test and then display it below the failure explanation to quickly transport from rigor to splunk (or any query service that the user specifies for that matter). Just being able to parse the time window, an index, and some piece of data could go a long way in simplifying the debugging process.

  4. UI: Add numbering column to Check Tables landing

Since the system/contracts are based on # of allowed checks, add a count column on the landing page. Otherwise you have to manually count them. Example: http://prntscr.com/8p76bs

  5. Add Schedule Time or Temporary Time to Mute Alerts by Control Group

    Hi,

Muting alerts by Control Groups is great, but I would like to be able to temporarily mute them (for X min or X hours). Another feature would be to add schedule mute. This would come in handy for scheduled downtime or when we have known system problems and don't want to forget to unmute the Control Group.

    Thank you,

    Chris

This is a great idea. Muted checks and forgetting about them can lead to a ton of problems and creates a blindspot for the organization, so I like the idea of a timed mute that auto reverts.

  6. Display specific JavaScript errors in RBC

If a JavaScript error happens during a RBC, allow us to see what the error was as well as the stack trace.

  7. When a node is unavailable do not send failure response

When a node goes down for maintenance or other reasons the response it sends when trying to make either a uptime or real browser check should not be a failure. Currently this will trigger false positives where the node is down yet the service or page it is monitoring is actually indeed working.

  8. ICMP Ping

A simple (ICMP) ping would be nice for monitoring devices that don't have a web-frontend.

  9. Email Trends for Recurring Tests

Weekly/bi-weekly emails showing trends for recurring tests. This is very helpful for leads/managers to stay on top of optimizations.

  10. Email Reports: Include percentage change

It's great that we include green arrows or red arrows in email reports to indicate change in performance. It would be even better if we also included the percentage change, so it would be easier to see if there was a big difference from previous days.

  11. Host header override matching with dns override

in case of any A/B test, and if we don't want to touch production configuration, then we are able to send the request to prototype or other configuration using DNS overriding feature. But when we want to tests different configuration depending on different host headers, we would want to apply different host headers towards the B-set, C-set prototypes. So if the dns overrides can be applied together with host header override, we can conduct various A/B/C tests with production host names

  12. Set Custom color legend thresholds on Dashboards

In trying to set up an Executive Dashboard, the default thresholds for how the coloring (Green, Yellow, Red) is applied to the dashboard are looser than the thresholds our executives would like to see.

Example: The executive dashboards default to showing any avg uptime of 98-100% as green, 90-97% as yellow, and <90% as red. But because our sites need to be highly available, we'd rather have those thresholds be 99.9-100% green, 99.5-99.9% yellow, and <99.5% red. Similarly we'd like to be able to set thresholds for Response times.

  13. make timeout configurable per test

The timeout of 60s works for most tests, but I have use cases where I would want it increased or decreased. Rigor today fails a test at 60s even if the backend eventually returns.
It would be fantastic to be able to change this setting per test.

  14. Notifications: Log escalation emails like normal alerts

Please log escalation emails like you do normal alert emails, so we can tell an escalation triggered and see who it went to.

This is a good idea Barry. Allows for greater transparency. We are currently collecting use cases for a reworking of our alerting/notifications system, so this is helpful to know about.

  15. Notify on Check Status Change

We'd like to not only send notification and escalations when a check fails, but notify a specific group when someone has taken ownership of the issue in the Rigor tool, and a separate group to receive a "back on" notification. This will help our stakeholders notified that there were issues, but emphasize that IT is either working on the resolution, or it has been resolved.

  16. Notifications: Notify on specific error to a separate contact

At the moment, we set up an alert and a single contact (be it a group or email address). It would be great if we were able to add multiple notification entries and apply the alert thresholds to each entry. So for example if the entire test fails it would go to the NOC, if a specific error occurs like a 4XX then go to a particular email address like a developer for example. We shouldn't have to create multiple tests for this.

Thanks for writing in William. I totally agree. We should allow specific notification settings to tie to 1 or more threshold monitors.

We are currently defining use cases for a completely revamped notification system. This seems like a logical one to include. Moving to under review while we plan.

  17. Real Browser - add option to collect screen print of all runs

Please add an option to turn on collecting a screen print for all runs including successful runs. This would be helpful for us to compare ads that display on failed runs versus passed runs.

Sounds like Kathy is just asking for screen shots for successful runs as well as failed runs. Emailing to clarify

To collect speedindex, we have to take a bunch of screen shots, even on successful runs, so we could expose those to the user even for successful runs.

  18. Reports: Add option to see tag reports over time frames < or = 24 hours

Current tag reports are based on daily rollups. It would be nice if users could easily see individual runs within smaller time frames on the tag report or have the option to create on the fly performance history reports based on tags.

I know inside the app, we should run-level metrics for a tag set under the “Dashboards”. Makes sense to apply this out to reports as well. Reaching out to Melanie to get some clarifying details.

  19. Overwrite the local DNS configuration for a specific test.

It would be helpful to have the ability to overwrite the local DNS resolver for a specific test. For example, we want to test a webpage as normal, but have DNS resolution done by a specific recursive DNS server. This is different than the DNS override in the host header, which allows replacement of a domain with an IP; in this case, we would like dynamic resolution to follow load balancing configurations.

  20. Global dashboard filters

When viewing the check results there is an option to filter based on location and date. The filter only applies to the graph not to the individual run results and alert listings. Pleasse apply the filters on everything on the page.
